Primer: Understanding and Accommodating Uncertainty in Climate Change Data

Climate models produce a large range of future conditions. Users of climate information need an explanation of this uncertainty and how to interpret it, as well as best practices for making decisions when faced with scientific uncertainty.

This primer explains the uncertainty inherent in the modelling of climate change, with a focus on Canada’s Prairie provinces. It describes the causes of uncertainty, the ways in which it is measured and communicated, and the implications for climate risk assessment and adaptation planning.
