Practice Guide for Advancing Climate Equity in Coastal Climate Change Adaptation Projects

2024 – SHIFT Collaborative; Natural Resources Canada.

The Practice Guide for Advancing Climate Equity in Coastal Climate Change Adaptation Projects is a tool to support participants in the Climate-Resilient Coastal Communities (CRCC) program — as well as those undertaking other climate adaptation work — to create more inclusive and equitable climate projects.

Climate equity is an approach that applies a fairness framework to the ways we experience, understand and respond to climate change. It ensures the fair distribution of climate protection efforts and reduces the unequal burdens created by climate change. The Guide introduces a set of five principles that can help serve as the foundation for climate equity in coastal climate change adaptation projects.

The Guide also provides case studies from the four maritime regions (Atlantic, Pacific, North, and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence) to help you understand how principles of equity can show up in practice.
