Fraser Basin Council Case Study: City of Prince George

2011 – Fraser Basin Council and City of Prince George

This Fraser Basin Council case study summarizes recent climate change adaptation planning in the City of Prince George, British Columbia, which has been underway since 2007. The report Adapting to Climate Change in Prince George: An Overview of Adaptation Priorities (2009) summarizes climate change projections, impacts, strategies and potential adaptation actions for Prince George, and outlines 11 focus areas for adaptation planning. These are considered in Prince George’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, called myPG 2010, and will be incorporated into the City’s updated Official Community Plan. The City examined some key impacts in greater detail, including transportation infrastructure, stormwater and agriculture, with funding from the BC Regional Climate Adaptation Collaborative initiative.
