Food access in a changing climate: Stories from six remote communities in BC

2024 – BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

This project aims to share experiences of food costs, food access and climate change from people living in remote areas of BC.

In 2022-23, eight communities participated in the creation of the BCCDC’s “Food Costs and Climate Change Impact Stories from Remote BC Communities” report. One-on-one and group conversations with Knowledge Keepers and community members were held to hear stories and experiences from across the province with the intent to learn from one another, better understand complex issues surrounding food security in remote communities and identify cross-collaborative actions to address the expressed needs of people in remote communities in BC.

The Community Stories and Experiences section of this report is rich with the voices of community members from these remote parts of the province. Their unique stories have been brought to life and shared with permission on the BCCDC’s food security website.
