Coastal First Nations: First Nations Climate Projects on the Coast – Recognizing the Commitment to Climate Solutions

Coastal First Nations Adaptation Workshop Series
This session will feature six speakers focusing on the climate work of coastal First Nations. Speakers include:
- Devin Rachar, Climate Action Coordinator, and Michael Vegh, Climate Action Peer Network Coordinator, who will speak about the work and goals of the Coastal First Nations Climate Action Network,
- Jess Housty, Executive Director of the Qqs Projects Society, who will speak to the local food systems resiliecy work of the Society,
- Alejandro Frid, Science Coordinator of the Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance, who will speak on the ecological and cultural value of kelp beds and how they have been impacted by climate,
- Elijah Mecham, Clean Energy Community Energy Coordinator at Nuxalk Nation, who will speak about the groundwater monitoring program in development at Nuxalk Nation, and
- Bob Sokol, Director of Planning and Capital Projects at Squamish Nation, who will speak to Squamish Nation’s work on the Sea Level Rise Risk Assessment and Adaptive Management Strategy.
